Gibraltar
Gibraltar
This is our shortest stop – we arrived at noon and leave at 5. Instead of taking an excursion through the ship we had heard that you could get a taxi tour of the island or take the cable car to the top of the Rock on your own after you get off the ship so that was our plan.
There were plenty of taxis waiting to offer tours right as we got off the ship but we decided to do the cable car instead. We took a shuttle bus into town where there was lots of shopping. After about a 15-20 minute walk we got to the cable car station to find an incredibly long line – about an hour wait to buy a ticket! With time so limited, we decided not to try that – it was already 1:20 and if waited an hour, looked around at the Rock for any amount of time, then had to wait again to get a cable car back down we were afraid that we would be too tight on time.
It seems like a shame to come to Gibraltar and not go to the top of the Rock but we have great views from the ship and I’m sure there will be more views as we sail away. As we arrived we could see the large rock at the tip of Africa – it would have been great to have time to take a ferry over there but there definitely wasn’t enough time for that either.
Lance and I had a good time walking around all of the shopping areas and just going at our own pace.
Tomorrow we will be in Lisbon and have a tour scheduled with 6 other people from Lisbon to a couple of the small towns nearby.
